FUEL EFFICIENCY IMPROVEMENT PROGRAM

The Fuel Efficiency Improvement Program is implemented in a Bus depot through focused approach by targeting 10 % of lowest performing drivers & 10 % of lowest performing buses. The identification of 10 % lowest performing drivers & buses is done through a software tool by analysis of various types of data maintained by depot which includes type of routes, type of bus, fuel addition & kilometers run.


The low performing drivers are trained on fuel efficient driving habits in a classroom session as well as on the road practical training session. Then after one-week of 1st training session, each targeted driver is again monitored by the training instructor on their actual route of operation twice with a gap of one week. Their driving habits are recorded & drivers are trained with efficient driving skills. The 10 % lowest performing buses are checked for any defect as per standard maintenance checklists & bus depot is advised to rectify the defects.

 

The performance of lowest performing drivers & buses is evaluated by comparing Pre-activities month KMPL data with post-activities month KMPL data.

 

This exercise is repeated three times in a bus depot by covering 30 % lowest performing drivers & 30 % lowest performing buses over a period of 6 months in order to develop a cadre of fuel-efficient drivers, mechanics, efficient buses and thus to promote and propagate fuel efficiency/KMPL improvement in Transport Sector.

 

By following fuel efficient driving habits & best maintenance practices, this Program will not only lead to fuel conservation but will also reduce breakdown of vehicles, increase Road Safety, and ultimately reduce the Vehicular Pollution.
