| PCRA receives requests for evaluation of additives/devices
from manufacturers/distributors, which help in Oil Conservation
and Pollution Reduction in the transport sector.
The manufacturer/distributor of the additives/devices is
required to furnish detailed information about his product
by filling up the standard questionnaire.
He is also advised to furnish detailed literature and copies
of tests report/testimonials on the tests carried out by some
Govt./Accredited laboratories regarding efficacy of the product.
The proposal is reviewed by Screening Committee of PCRA,
wherein the manufacturer/distributor of additive/device is
required to make a detailed presentation about the product.
The Screening Committee accords approval for evaluation of
additives/devices for the products, which are likely to show,
cost effective fuel economy. Thereafter the manufacturer/distributor
of the additive/device is advised to send sample of the additive/device
for evaluation. The same is evaluated at one of the member
research labs.
The evaluation reports received from member R&D labs
are reviewed by Screening Committee of PCRA. Thereafter a
copy of summary of evaluation report is sent to the manufacturer/distributor
of the product. If the product shows cost effective fuel economy,
the manufacturer/distributor of the additive/device is required
to carry out detailed field trials on a fleet of vehicles
in association with engine/vehicle manufacturers and Oil Companies
for evaluating the actual fuel economy on road while the product
is being used by final beneficiaries like STU’s. If
the product shows cost effective fuel economy during field
trials also, it is approved for commercialization.
PCRA charges subsidized evaluation fee from manufacturer/distributor
of indigenous additives/devices and the balance cost to be
paid to member research labs is borne by PCRA. In case of
imported additives/devices actual evaluation fee is charged
by PCRA.
Till date PCRA has evaluated nearly 220 additives/devices.
Out of these 31 nos. of additives/devices were found to be
giving cost effective fuel economy during lab tests and were
recommended for field trials. After field trials and proved
cost effective fuel economy, 6 nos. of MS/Diesel fuel additives
have been approved for commercialization. |
