Furnace Efficiency Improvement through Energy Conservation

Petroleum Conservation Research Association Raipur, Urla Industries Association and Small Industries Service Institute came together to organize an Industry meet on “Furnace Efficiency Improvement through Energy Conservation” in Hotel Piccadilly, Raipur on 8th September 2004. The event was aimed at creating awareness among industries about the efficient management of energy with stress on proposing practical and commercially viable measures to be adopted for energy savings in furnaces as it has a direct positive impact on the industry’s bottom line.

The response to the event was very good as around 100 participants from various industries and Govt. Departments turned out, actively participated making the technical sessions lively and gave their feedback in the end.

The Inaugural Function was chaired by Shri R K Gupta, Chief Regional Coordinator, PCRA, Mumbai. He delivered the key note address in which he highlighted the overall oil scenario of the world with special mention of the “Hydrocarbon Vision: 2025” of Ministry of Petroleum and Natural Gas, Govt. of India .He suggested the industrialists to keep an eye on the specific energy consumption of their plants to be able to cope up with the changing energy scenario and its impact on the industries. He also elaborated about PCRA’s activities in various Economic Sectors.

Shri G K Agrawal, President, Urla Industries Association in his address compared the specific energy consumption in India vis a vis Japan and appealed the industrialists to give a thought to their energy bills. He advocated the availability of easy finance for carrying out energy audit and appealed the financial agencies to come forward for that.

Shri R S Badapatra, Deputy Director, Small Industries Service Institute, in his address gave stress on the design aspects of furnaces for improving efficiency and optimum utilization of fuel. He suggested that for all this commitment of the management towards energy saving is prime requirement. He also mentioned that waste heat utilization is one significant factor for achieving better energy efficiency.

The Inaugural function was also addressed by Shri R Muthukrishnan, State Level Coordinator, Oil Industries Chhattisgarh, Shri Ramesh Agrawal, President, Mini Steel Plant Association Raipur and Shri R Puri, AGM, SBI Raipur.

Shri C K Dhiran, SRO, PCRA Raipur proposed the vote of thanks.

The Inauguration function was followed by two Technical sessions in which the representatives of different companies made presentations on different aspects of energy saving in industrial furnaces.

After the Technical sessions the forum was left open for the participants to get their queries and doubts cleared. Upon completion of this open forum Mr. R K Gupta declared the meet completed.

On the revenue generation front a sum of Rs.33120.00 was collected as participation fee from the presenters and through sale of PCRA booklets.
