United
States - Environmental Resource Center (US - ERC), and Petroleum
Conservation Research Association (PCRA) organized Energium
2004, a two day conference on "Energy Efficiency in Commercial
Buildings" on 29-30 June 2004 with the aim to disseminate
information on energy best practices, foster investment in
energy efficiency and provide technical solution for the commercial
building sector.
With the passing of the Energy Conservation Act by the Government
of India in August 2001 energy audits, energy labeling and
energy performance codes for equipments have become mandatory
for all industries. Every sector today is paying specific
attention to the potential of energy savings and a need to
align with technology providers offering energy conservation
solutions. With the established fact that one unit of energy
saved at the consumption level avoids 2.5 to 3 times fresh
capacity creation, it has become imperative to implement energy
efficiency programs.
The commercial buildings sector is one of the fastest growing
energy consumption sectors. Energy audit studies conducted
in several office buildings, hotels and hospitals indicate
an energy saving potential of 20-30 per cent, which is largely
untapped today. Energium 2004 provided unique forum to discuss
and debate the latest developments in Energy Efficiency in
Commercial Establishments: the policies and programs adopted
and planned, the strategies to further develop energy efficiency
as well as the technical and commercial advances in energy
services and facility management. The conference brought together
energy efficiency professionals, including energy managers,
energy efficiency consultants, equipment manufacturers, policy
makers, service providers to share their experiences, and
ideas. It addressed a broad array of subjects from technological
innovations to energy efficiency program implementation and
evaluation. The conference was divided into different sessions
spread over two days covering:
- Policy and Regulations
- Financing Mechanisms For Energy Efficiency Projects
- Project Development
- Technology Presentation
- Green Design and Energy Efficiency
- Energy Performance Contracting
- Case Studies
