Energy audit at Gas Company (UP)

Executive Summary

In UP there is a Gas company with India’s largest gas based Petrochemical Complex with an installed capacity of 2,60,000 TPA of Polyethylene ( HDPE, LDPE and LLDPE). The major by products are LPG, C2/C3 and Propane.

Natural Gas and electricity are the main sources of energy used in the plant. PCRA carried out a comprehensive energy conservation study for operations /performance of both electrical and thermal energy intensive equipments of the plant . The study was to identify potential areas of energy conservation and recommend energy savings measures along with cost benefit analysis.

PCRA’s audit finding highlights potential electrical and thermal savings as given below -

  • Electrical savings of Rs. 58.16 lacs at an investment of Rs.55.46 lacs with a simple pay back period of 0.95 years from our 6 proposals (i.e 1163.6 MWH or 107.4 KLOE)
  • Thermal savings of Rs. 1261.37 lacs at an investment of Rs.359 lacs with a simple pay back period of 0.28 years from our 9 proposals (i.e 12154.6 KLOE), covering the following areas.
  • Electrical system network
  • Motive load
  • Air compressor
  • Boiler operations
  • Steam distribution network
  • Furnace operation
  • GTs, HRSG and steam turbine operations
  • Lighting system
  • Cooling water and allied systems.
  • Illumination
